The Best Cleaning Tools

We've been cleaning in Calgary for 4 years now and as professional cleaners we are always trying new products, tools and techniques. We always want to be as efficient as possible, be eco-friendly and use our clients time wisely. And we've found some of the best cleaning tools along the way to help us do that.

Here are the tools we recommend to elevate your cleaning game:

Microfibre Cloths- We use these to clean pretty much everything. Designed to absorb 7 times it's weight in water, they dry much quicker than cotton towels. The millions of tiny fibres are designed to pick up dirt, grime, bacteria and liquids. They are reusable and you use 95% less cleaning product and water than a traditional cotton cloth. They buff polish and shine and can even be used on delicate surfaces such as electronics.

Scrub Daddy- Believe the hype. We've been using these handy little sponges for the past few years and can't say enough good things about them. The ergonomic grip makes them e scrub with, this is so important when you are cleaning for extended period of time. No hand cramps and it's easy to get in every nook and cranny. It's scratch free and can even changes the texture of the foam with hot or cold water. We use them on everything from countertops to stovetops to shower glass.

Steel Wool- We use #0000 steel wool, the finest grade available. Ultra fine and lightly abrasive, it's very important that you use #0000, more abrasive grades will scratch surfaces. Great to use on self cleaning ovens, glass showers, porcelain, copper and marble. Make sure to use with liquid such as all purpose cleaner. As always, make sure to do a scratch test on a small area first.

Pumice Stones- Our MVP for cleaning toilets in Calgary. Living in a city with hard water causes hard water stains and mineral buildup. If you're like us and you like your cleaning products all natural then pumice stones are game changers. They are a non toxic way to eliminate hard water stains, rust, mineral buildup and toilet rings. Make sure to wet very thoroughly and apply gentle pressure. We love using it on toilets and ovens( remember to use different stones for each area of the home, no cross contamination) but also understand that it's a heavy duty cleaning tool. Also, make sure to purchase your tool from a reputable brand, make sure it's actual pumice stone. We have heard horror stories of people purchasing from places like the dollar store and then the pumice( or whatever it's made out of) scratching and ruining surfaces. An amazing tool but proceed with caution.

Razor Blade Scraper- We are always looking for non toxic ways to lift off everything from grease to soap scum. A tool that every professional cleaner needs in their arsenal is a razor blade scraper. Great for glass stovetops, dirty windows, soap scum on bathroom tile and bathtubs, and glass showers. Use with liquid, such as all purpose cleaner and at a 45 degree angle.

Shark Vacuum- We have tried many vacuums over the past 4 years and our favourite vacuums are shark vacuums. They work well, are lightweight and easy to maneuver and easy to fix. They're also easy to maintain and clean in between clients. The best part is that they are also incredibly affordable. We love the Shark Rocket, or Shark Rocket Deluxe Pro.

Vileda Spin Mop- We've tried a lot of mops. Spray mops, flat mops, steam mops. Once we started using the Vildea mop system, there was no going back. With the Vileda spin mop you use a foot pedal to wring out any excess liquid. You control exactly how much water to use on your floors, keeping them streak free. It's hygienic by keeping the dirty water separate from the clean water and reusable mop heads. And the little triangle shape of the mop head to get into corners? Genius.

Those are all of our favourite tools that we use as a eco-friendly cleaning company. Most of these items can be found on Amazon, Walmart or Canadian Tire. Happy cleaning!
